It’s mostly aesthetics between gravels vs. live sand. Either way, you have to find a way to export nutrients.

Thanks. I wouldn’t do it. But others have done so. I’m looking to keep a really simple system with minimal maintenance, thus my choice with current livestock.

thanks Minh is it k it my live rock turns a lil dark i tryed setting my ph level to 8.4 but it im possible and ideas? thanks alot Minh

No problem. You can mix your own saltwater or buy premixed saltwater from your local fish store. Just make sure that temperature and salinity are relatively equal to avoid shocking the sytem. Perhaps a weekly water changes 20-25% (1-1.5G) should be fine.
Live plants usually do not have special requirement other than lighting in the right spectrum.

I used a Canon Digital Rebel XT DSLR. A couple of pictures were taken with the 100mm/2.8 macro lens. Other with 28-135/4.0-5.6 IS lens.

I use a small powerhead, 70-100gph, to create a gyre effect. As for lighting, look into LED.

how strong does the powerhead have to be i have same tank with saltwater no corals yet but want to upgrade lighting and what power head do i need help please thanks

Light fixture: 18″ Current Nova Extreme 2×18W.

Powerhead: I can’t recall where I got the small PH from. Basically I just grabbed the smallest one I could find in the “reef stuff” drawer.
