I was suggested the E200 for my 45 g, and it's been in for a week now and it will not go above 74 degrees as I'm reading lots of people have problems with it. I have seen these in the fish store so they have to work, maybe I have a bum one as well. I will check with my shop. Wish they had a FAQ on how to increase temp as I can't find my instructions.

I just took delivery of new Fluval E300 today. I had been using a 150 watt Marineland Stealthpro 150 for nearly a year, when I took it out of the tank without unplugging it and the chassis split and the 150 burned up.

The product literature says that the Stealthpros are supposed to turn off automatically when removed from the water, however this one did not.

I installed my new Fluval E300 this afternoon and it has been cycling in the blue range for a few hours.

Initially it would not go beyond 74 degrees. However, I set the temperature above 80 and it is now gradually working its way up, with the LF ( low water warning) coming on from time to time.

I have read of several complaints regarding these heaters not being able to get heat a tank beyond 80 degrees, with for certain types of tropicals (such as Discus) is simply not warm enough.

Granted that some of these aquariums for large - over 100 gallons.

I am hoping that the E300 will work well in my 37 gallon tank, since it should be undertaxed.

I have a feeling the LED will stay in the blue zone, however as long as the heater can keep the tank above 75 degrees, my tetras and panda corys will do fine.

As for the E300, it's easily the best looking heater I have owned, and it is well bit.

I am just concerned that it's over engineering is going to be problematic.

At least there's the 5 year warranty, however, Debbie in the other post has had a tough time getting replacements that work properly.

Another E300 owner stated that Fluval admitted that there was a problem with these heaters which they could not get a handle on. So why are they still being sold to the public?

Anyway, I will take my chances with this one and hope that my 37 gallon will be keep this heater operating in a very undertaxed way.

That was the entire point of going with a more powerful heater in the first place, after the Stealthpro crapped out.

However, I should note that the Stealthpro 150 worked flawlessly for nearly a year, and that it would still be working if it hadn't burned up when it was taken out of the tank while still being plugged in - which the manufacturer say is OK, because the heater is supposed to shut off automatically - which it did not.

Best of luck with your next E300 Debbie..

The first 200 w. heater lasted 1 yr. with no problem, stopped working, contacted support which sent out a new one. Replacement 1 wouldn't heat at all, replacement 2 wouldn't go over 75 degrees, replacement 3 went from set 78 down to 75 and wouldn't recover back to set degree, waiting on replaxcement 4. This has been going on for 1 month, you'd think that one of them would work. The wiring when comparing to each other isn't wired the same on board, reps keep referring to room temp, kind of strange that the Marineland Stealth heater brings the water back up to set temp and holds it there. Temps are regulated by the thermostat which should bring the temp right back up when it falls below the set temp. Not the last three replacements, reps are blaming it on ambient temp., been told that it is due to a cold snap, I'm in Calif. weather is not bad, room temp is not bad, come on the heater is in a tank not outside in the room air, lot of people complaining, must have alot of defectives out there! Heaters are regulated off a thermostat, If you can't send me a replacement that works either REFUND my original money or keep sending them until one works, there is a 5 year warranty on this product.
