I recently visited my local pet store to try and find a small aquarium suitable for my equally small apartment. I came across the Chi and was thrilled with the look and quality of the tank. However, upon looking further at the different tanks, I saw a fully set up Fluval Spec with … a full coral set up, 2 small clown fish, a banded coral shrimp and a pink tip anemone. I was shocked seeing the salt water set up in a tank so small, but was extremely intrigued. Upon speaking to an employee, he assured me the tank would be “fine” to have a salt water setup, but I am still skeptical … please advise?

Hi CJ, it is possible to keep a salt water setup in a Spec but we would not advise it to anyone who is not already an experienced marine fish keeper. The smaller the body of water, the more difficult it is to keep the water chemistry in balance. For the Spec, we advise plants, a couple of fresh water shrimp and possibly a snail or two.
