NEW Fluval Edge Range available now!

The Fluval Edge is one of the most popular and iconic nano aquariums available today. 2011 will see the launch of the redesigned Edge range with a larger size option and a new ‘Day & Night’ LED lighting system.

As well as the standard 23 litre/6 US gal model the new Fluval Edge range will include a large 46 litre/12 US gal aquarium. The larger aquarium has the same footprint as the standard model, so it won’t take up extra linear space. The ‘double height’ design allows more room for creative aquascaping and a larger viewing area to enjoy the beauty of your aquatic creation.

Light up your life, day or night!

With new Edge comes a completely re-designed lighting system. Super bright LED bulbs (21 bulbs on the 23L model, 42 bulbs on the 46L model) with a 7600k spectrum create a strong, white light. A flick of a switch activates night mode, where 3 blue LEDs cast a cool moonlight glow over your aquascape, perfect as a night-light.

If you have a Fluval Edge aquarium already you can now enjoy all the benefits of LED lighting without buying a whole new aquarium! The Fluval Edge LED bulb set includes two splash proof high intensity LED bulbs to replace the halogen bulbs originally supplied. LED lighting emits a brighter, cleaner light and with a power consumption of just 1.8W each they are over five times cheaper to run than the original halogen bulbs.

White…it’s the new black!

New Edge now comes in a stunning gloss white finish that will blend perfectly with the latest home décor. Gloss black and Pewter (23L only) finishes are also available.

The tanks look great especially with the new led lighting. The one major problem with the setup is that the day and night lights are on the same power cord so you can’t control them separately via 2 timers which sort of makes the feature useless to most people. Most people like to have their aquarium lights on timers so the night lights come on an hour before the day lights and shut off an hour after the day lights go off. This makes a much better transition for the fish.

It might not be too hard to rewire. The current design makes it pretty easy. I changed my sockets to MR-16 for some very bright LED’s, and it took about 20 minutes.

If I get the new tall Edge, I would definitely do that.

I am now thinking about wiring after market blue LED additions for my current one.

Hi Kim, that depends where in the world you are. In the UK (my location) it will be available in October with an SRP of £199.99. Pricing and availability in other countries will vary.

In the UK both models should be appearing in aquatic retailers by mid October. Manufacturers suggested retail prices are £133.99 for the 23L model, £199.99 for the 46L.

I have seen people modify the old tanks with a led system. I am considering building a small reef tank and would love a tank in either of these sizes. I just a few questions.

Can this tank be used for a saltwater reef tank?
Would the lights need to be modified to support coral?
Also would the flow in the standard filter be good enough to support a reef?

@Brent and Randy, the Edge can be used as a nano reef environment and has been done successfully by many, but the LED lighting is single band lighting and not full spectrum, meaning we cannot recommend it for use in a marine system.

@Stephan – it depends where in the world you are. It is available now in the UK, please contact your local Hagen customer service dept via http://www.hagen.com for information on local availability.

Looks like the new tank is the same dimensions except for being twice as tall. If the hood is the same, then the lighting should be interchangeable. I sure would like to buy the lighting setup for the range and put it on my edge. Will that be possible?

The Edge is a wonderful new approach to aquarium design. I have just gotten back into the world of keeping freshwater fish and just had to have an Edge. It so neatly hides all of the unsightly clutter that turned me off previous tank designs. My tank has been running for about two months now and it has been thoroughly enjoyable. My aquarium supplier here in the US just showed me the new 46 litre tank and it is definitely on my list as a next purchase.
