If you buy any normal electronic timer that you plug in to a socket all you have to do is programme the timer so that your lights switch on and off at whatever time you like, plug it in to the mains socket (or extension lead if need be) and then insert your lights plug in to the timer. Your timer will automatically switch the lights on/off according to the times you have set.

No way. Don’t take the sales assistant’s advice about the heater. He/she obviously doesn’t know what they are talking about. You definitely need a heater if you want to keep tropical fish as the lighting alone will not heat the water to anywhere near the temperature you need.

I have a fluval edge tank myself and would not dare take my heater out – the fish would not last long at all!

I have just purschased the Fluval Edge (black) yesterday and want to house tropical fish (Guppies, neon Tetras, maybe 1 Siamese fighting fish). I was told by the sales attendant that the tank doesnt require a heater because the halogen lights will be sufficient to keep the water warm enough for them to live in. Does this sound right?

I have a question. Is there a timer which can be purchased for the Fluval? Removing the top to turn on/off the lights doesn’t seem practical especially since I’m wanting to keep my top in perfect condition. Thank you. Freddie

Last week my Fluval (Burnt Organge) was set-up by an expert for a salt water system. Live sand along with salt water was put in. I already have three snails and two tiny starfish! I love it. I will be ordering a heater today. My fish guy says that I can’t have fish for another two weeks. He is thinking three tiny clown fish with reef live rock. It is going to be awesome. I need a heater.

Had my edge a couple of weeks now and LOVE it! However as with other people on here have a complaint about the lights. We’ve had fish for 18 years and I’ve never seen neons look so pale. Are fluval going to bring out replacement lights? Seems a shame to have a tank that due to it’s size is kinda built to house small fish like neons, yet when you put them in they look all pale and sickly.

Day two and I don’t know if the fruval 25w heater is working or not. When should the light come on on the heater? does the heater have a built in thermostat which might explain why the light isn’t on all the time? the instructions supplied give no mention of the light, it appears the instructions are just to cover health and safety issues! The temperature at the moment is between 25-25.8 is this sufficient?

I’ve just purchased one of these today and I’m just running it in before the fish arrive next week. It does appear to be a little noisy though, semms to be a common problem! Is there any official advice anywhere on how to fix this problem?
